Nurse practitioners are registered nurses with advanced education and nursing experience. Their comprehensive approach to wellness places individuals at the very centre of care delivery. Nurse practitioners understand and respect the importance of family and community in maintaining wellness and in creating caring relationships.
To ensure holistic care for all, nurse practitioners integrate knowledge gained through research, theory, clinical expertise, individuals and their families, colleagues, collaborators, and self-reflection. Nurse practitioners serve a meaningful role in improving access to care for all Islanders.
The Prince Edward Island Nurse Practitioner Association (PEINPA) is a non-profit, volunteer-led special interest group that supports and advances the professional interests of its membership: nurse practitioners (NPs) and nurse practitioner students. PEINPA facilitates the efforts of NPs to provide accessible, efficient and effective healthcare at the highest standards of practice.
PEINPA works closely with the provincial regulatory body, the Association of Registered Nurses of Prince Edward Island and serves in an advocacy and advisory role to individuals, organizations and communities who seek information or guidance in their understanding of the scope of practice, standards of care, and implementation of the NP role.
